This day marks the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a revolutionary who changed the way the world looks at India.
Born in 1863 in a Bengali family as Narendranath Datta, Vivekananda was an bright child excelling in athletics, studies, and music equally. During his youth, he was an atheist. Later, he met Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa who lived in Dakshineshwar near Kolkata and became his disciple where his spiritual journey began.
He took Sanyas and embarked on a journey across India. During his travels, he was shocked by the sight of poverty that was prevailing in the masses, to eradicate poverty he started the Ramakrishna foundation which aimed at religious, economic, and financial upliftment.
In 1893, Swami Vivekananda made international headlines for his fluent speech in Chicago where he delivered his master's message to the world. His speech earned him a standing ovation in the world's parliament. he introduced the Indian philosophy of Vedanta and yoga to the western world. Today we celebrate this great religious revolutionary's birthday.
